Biatain® Super Adhesive Hydrocapillary Wound Dressing

Biatain® Super Adhesive is a highly absorbent hydrocapillary wound dressing designed for the management of low, medium and highly exuding wounds. Its superabsorbent pad rapidly absorbs wound exudate and distributes fluid throughout the dressing, helping maximise absorption capacity while reducing the risk of leakage and maceration.

The dressing combines effective exudate management with an integrated adhesive border, providing an all-in-one wound dressing that is simple to apply and does not require an additional wound contact layer.

Biatain® Super Adhesive helps maintain a moist wound-healing environment while providing reliable protection for a wide range of acute and chronic wounds.

Key benefits of Biatain® Super Adhesive

  • Highly absorbent hydrocapillary wound dressing
  • Suitable for low, medium and highly exuding wounds
  • Superabsorbent particles absorb and retain wound exudate
  • Rapid vertical absorption helps move fluid away from the wound
  • Horizontal distribution maximises use of the absorbent pad
  • Helps reduce the risk of leakage and peri-wound maceration
  • Supports an optimal moist wound-healing environment
  • Integrated adhesive construction for simple application
  • Non-adherent wound contact layer helps reduce the risk of the dressing sticking to the wound
  • Semi-permeable, water- and bacteria-proof outer film
  • High moisture vapour transmission supports effective exudate management
  • Suitable for use under compression therapy
  • Can be used on a broad range of acute and chronic wounds

What is Biatain® Super Adhesive used for?

Biatain® Super Adhesive is designed for the treatment of a wide range of exuding wounds, including:

  • Leg ulcers
  • Pressure ulcers
  • Diabetic foot ulcers
  • Surgical wounds
  • Second-degree burns
  • Skin abrasions

The dressing can manage varying levels of wound fluid, making it suitable where exudate may range from low to high.

Biatain® Super Adhesive can also be used in combination with compression therapy, making it suitable for relevant exuding wounds where compression forms part of the prescribed treatment plan.

How does Biatain® Super Adhesive work?

Biatain® Super Adhesive contains a superabsorbent hydrocapillary pad designed to absorb, distribute and retain wound exudate.

Fluid first passes through the non-adherent wound contact layer before being absorbed vertically into the hydrocapillary pad. Fibres within the pad then distribute the exudate horizontally, helping utilise more of the dressing's available absorption capacity.

Superabsorbent particles retain fluid within the dressing, while the high moisture vapour transmission rate of the outer layer further contributes to exudate management.

This combination helps maintain an appropriate moist wound-healing environment while reducing the risk of excess fluid accumulating at the wound edges.

Biatain® Super Adhesive for exudate management

Effective wound exudate management is important for protecting both the wound and surrounding skin.

Biatain® Super Adhesive is designed to rapidly absorb and retain wound fluid, helping minimise the risk of leakage and maceration, including in highly exuding wounds.

Because the dressing can manage a broad range of exudate levels, it may also help simplify dressing selection where wound-fluid production changes during the healing process.

What is Biatain® Super Adhesive made from?

Biatain® Super Adhesive combines several functional layers:

  • A superabsorbent hydrocapillary pad for fluid absorption and retention
  • Superabsorbent particles that lock wound exudate into the dressing
  • Fibres that distribute fluid throughout the absorbent pad
  • A non-adherent wound contact layer that allows exudate to pass into the dressing
  • A hydrocolloid component providing adhesion
  • A semi-permeable outer film that is water- and bacteria-proof

The non-adherent contact layer separates the absorbent pad from the wound and surrounding skin, helping decrease the risk of the dressing sticking to the wound.

Biatain® Super may remain in place for up to 7 days, depending on the level of wound exudate, the condition of the dressing and the type of wound.

The dressing should be changed when clinically indicated or when the absorbent pad becomes saturated with exudate.

Why choose Biatain® Super Adhesive?

Biatain® Super Adhesive combines high absorbency, fluid retention and integrated adhesion in an all-in-one dressing suitable for wounds producing low to high levels of exudate.

Its hydrocapillary technology rapidly draws fluid away from the wound and distributes it through the absorbent pad, while superabsorbent particles retain exudate and help minimise leakage and maceration.

This makes Biatain® Super Adhesive a versatile option for managing exuding wounds including leg ulcers, pressure ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, surgical wounds and second-degree burns.

Wound assessment, dressing selection and frequency of change should always be based on clinical judgement and the manufacturer's instructions for use.
