Description
The PROFORE Latex-Free Multi-Layer Compression System 18–25cm by Smith+Nephew is a complete compression bandaging kit designed for the management of venous leg ulcers and associated venous conditions.
Designed specifically for patients with an ankle circumference of 18–25cm, the system uses multiple bandage layers to provide sustained, graduated compression. Pressure is highest at the ankle and gradually reduces further up the leg, helping support venous return and manage lower-limb oedema.
The latex-free formulation provides the performance of the standard PROFORE system while offering an alternative for patients with latex allergy or sensitivity.
Key Features
- Full multi-layer compression system: Designed for the management of venous leg ulceration.
- Suitable for 18–25cm ankle circumference: Sized to deliver the intended compression profile for this ankle range.
- Graduated compression: Provides approximately 40mmHg at the ankle, reducing towards the calf.
- Up to 7-day wear time: Can maintain effective compression for up to seven days when clinically appropriate.
- Latex-free formulation: Suitable where latex allergy or hypersensitivity is a concern.
- Helps manage oedema: Supports venous return and reduction of lower-limb swelling.
- Multi-layer construction: Combines padding, conformability and compression in a complete system.
- Includes wound contact layer: Provides a suitable interface over the wound before compression layers are applied.
- Single complete kit: Contains the components required for one compression application.
What is PROFORE Latex-Free used for?
PROFORE Latex-Free is specifically developed for the management of venous leg ulcers and associated conditions.
The multi-layer system applies sustained graduated pressure to the lower limb, helping counteract venous hypertension and improve venous blood return.
It may be used in the management of:
- Venous leg ulcers
- Chronic venous insufficiency
- Lower-limb oedema associated with venous disease
- Other venous conditions where full compression therapy is clinically indicated
What is included in the kit?
The latex-free system uses the following components:
PROFORE #1
Soft padding layer that helps cushion the limb and protect bony prominences.
PROFORE #2
Conformable layer that helps shape the limb and provides additional absorbency.
PROFORE #3
Compression layer contributing to the therapeutic pressure profile.
PROFORE #4
Cohesive outer compression layer that helps secure the completed system.
PROFORE WCL
Wound contact layer for placement over the wound where required.
Together, these layers form a complete graduated compression system.
How does PROFORE work?
The individual bandage layers work together to create graduated compression, with greater pressure at the ankle and decreasing pressure further up the leg.
The PROFORE system is designed to provide approximately 40mmHg at the ankle, reducing to around 17mmHg just below the knee when applied correctly.
This compression supports venous return and can help create an environment that promotes healing of venous leg ulcers.
Who is it suitable for?
PROFORE Latex-Free 18–25cm is intended for patients with an ankle circumference between 18cm and 25cm who have been clinically assessed as suitable for full compression therapy.
Compression treatment should only be used following an appropriate vascular assessment and should be applied by a suitably trained healthcare professional.
Patients with significant arterial insufficiency may not be suitable for full compression and may require an alternative system.
Why choose PROFORE Latex-Free?
PROFORE combines sustained graduated compression, wound protection and limb cushioning in a complete multi-layer system.
The latex-free formulation is particularly useful where latex sensitivity is a concern, while the 18–25cm sizing helps ensure the intended therapeutic compression profile is achieved for the appropriate ankle circumference.
