Kendall™ AMD Antimicrobial Foam Dressing

Kendall™ AMD Antimicrobial Foam Dressing is a soft, absorbent antimicrobial wound dressing containing 0.5% polyhexamethylene biguanide (PHMB). Designed for the management of exuding wounds where antimicrobial protection is required, it combines fluid absorption with broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity within the dressing.

As wound fluid is absorbed into the foam, the PHMB incorporated within the dressing helps resist bacterial colonisation and reduce bacterial penetration through the dressing. This helps create a moist wound environment while supporting the management of contaminated, colonised or infected wounds.

The soft foam construction provides cushioning and absorbency, while the non-adherent design helps make dressing changes more comfortable.

How does Kendall™ AMD Antimicrobial Foam Dressing work?

The dressing combines absorbent polyurethane foam with 0.5% PHMB antimicrobial technology.

The foam absorbs wound fluid and helps maintain an appropriately moist environment. PHMB is bound within the dressing material and acts against microorganisms that come into contact with the dressing.

This helps prevent microorganisms from colonising the foam and reduces the potential for bacteria to penetrate through the dressing.

Unlike dressings that rely solely on absorption, Kendall™ AMD provides both fluid management and antimicrobial activity in a single dressing.

What is PHMB in Kendall™ AMD?

Kendall™ AMD for contaminated and infected wounds

Kendall™ AMD can be used as part of the management of contaminated, colonised or clinically infected wounds, where antimicrobial activity within the dressing is desirable.

The dressing should not be considered a replacement for systemic or other appropriate treatment where a patient has clinical signs of spreading or systemic infection. Wound infection should always be assessed and managed according to appropriate clinical protocols.

How long can Kendall™ AMD stay in place?

Kendall™ AMD Antimicrobial Foam Dressing can remain in place for up to 7 days, depending on the wound condition, exudate level and clinical assessment.

The dressing should be changed sooner if it becomes saturated, if exudate reaches the dressing edges, or when clinical assessment indicates that replacement is required.

How is Kendall™ AMD Antimicrobial Foam Dressing applied?

The wound should first be cleansed according to the appropriate clinical protocol and the surrounding skin dried.

Select a dressing large enough to extend beyond the wound margins. If required, Kendall™ AMD may be cut to provide an appropriate fit.

For the standard non-adhesive foam dressing, apply the appropriate white surface to the wound and secure it using suitable fixation such as adhesive tape, a film dressing or another appropriate secondary dressing.
